The Caribou boys’ varsity basketball team hold a 3-0 mark in the young season thanks to last Wednesday’s dismantling of Fort Kent.
The Vikes limited the Warriors to five first-half points in the 53-20 drubbing. Cody Herbert scored 10 points and the Savage brothers — Dayne and Donovan — contributed seven each. Both Caribou girls’ and boys’ squads will take an overnight trip this weekend, with games Friday at Mount Desert Island and Saturday at Ellsworth.
The Limestone-MSSM girls were a perfect 4-0 entering their game at Hodgdon Dec. 23. The team downed previously-undefeated Van Buren last Tuesday in an entertaining game played on the Eagles’ home floor.
Crusader senior guard Parise Rossignol scored the 2,000th point of her career in the first period, but she fouled out midway through the fourth quarter as the Eagles pulled away for the 61-52 triumph.
Chelsey Pelkey, a sophomore point guard for Limestone-MSSM, netted 33 points to lead the winners. Rossignol finished with 23 for Van Buren. It was the second consecutive season that the Eagles had beaten the Crusaders in Limestone.
Summaries of other games involving local teams played Dec. 17-21 are as follows:
Fort Fairfield girls 43, Easton 31 — In a defensive struggle Friday at Fort Fairfield, the Tigers proved to be a little too much for the Bears, stopping Easton’s three-game winning streak.
Teresa Maynard was the lone player in the game in double figures in scoring as she totaled 11. Whitney McNamee added eight for Fort.
Mariah Cyr, Kalie Ward and Cassandra Buck scored seven points apiece for Easton.
Washburn girls 67, Wisdom 11 — The Beavers, still without junior standout guard Mackenzie Worcester, made easy work of the Pioneers Thursday with Carsyn Koch scoring a season-high 15 points and Carmen Bragg putting in 14 more to lead the way.
The stifling Beaver defense kept Wisdom off the scoreboard until 2:55 left in the first half. Nicole Olson had nine points and Emilia Churchill eight for the winners.
Fort Kent girls 32, Fort Fairfield 26 — In a defensive struggle at Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, the Warriors outscored the Tigers as Plourde was the lone player in double digits in points with 11. Megan Jellison’s six was tops for FF.
Van Buren boys 55, Limestone-MSSM 39 — The Eagles gave the Crusaders a tough test for over a half, but Jake Rioux, a transfer from Hermon, was too much with his five three-point field goals and game-high 36 points.
Freshman Victor Negron posted 10 points and Tristan Kirk nine for winless Limestone-MSSM.
