CARIBOU, Maine — Longtime Caribou City Councilor Kenneth Murchison was recognized for his tenure with the municipality during the Dec. 9 meeting of the Caribou City Council.
Elected in 2001, Murchison was first sworn into office on Jan. 7, 2002, back when Lucinda Hebert was the mayor. In addition to serving the city for 12 consecutive years, Murchison served multiple terms as mayor. His last year as mayor was in 2012, and he currently serves as the city’s deputy mayor, a position he was voted into by his fellow councilors.
In recognition of his service to Caribou, Murchison was presented with a plaque by Mayor Gary Aiken, who did so on behalf of himself, the council and the citizens of Caribou.
“I deeply want to thank you for your long service to the city,” Aiken said, presenting Murchison the plaque with a handshake.  “It’s been 12 years, very much appreciated by everyone, and a job very well done.”
During the organizational City Council meeting on Jan 2, 2014, councilor Joan Theriault will be sworn in to fill the seat formerly held by Murchison.
