CARIBOU – Sylvia M. Barclay, 86, wife of the late Clarence L. Barclay passed away Friday evening, December 13, 2013, at a Caribou healthcare facility following a brief illness. She was born October 16, 1927, in Saint John Plantation, the daughter of Vetal and Albertine (Pelletier) Thibodeau.
She attended St. John and St. Francis schools, and was married to Clarence L. Barclay on November 2, 1946. She was a communicant of the Parish of The Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou for many years and had been employed at Caribou Steam Laundry for several years, Day’s Jewelry in Caribou for many years and at LS Hall Company for a number of years. Following her husband’s death, Sylvia resided in Bristol, CT for several years where she worked as a personal care attendant and later lived in Plymouth, MA for 16 and a half years and attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Buzzard’s Bay, where she served on the Ladies Guild for over ten years. She was a former member of the Caribou Ladies of St. Anne and a current member of the Daughters of Isabella Holy Rosary Circle #638. Both Clarence and Sylvia had been members of the Caribou Hoofers and have served in several capacities. She was an avid reader and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence on November 13, 1983; two sisters, Jean Blanchette and Leola Murphy. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Allen Barclay of Damascus, MD, Larry Dale Barclay and his wife, Carol Lynn, of Tucson, AZ, Wayne Dean Barclay and his husband, Chet Waltman of Standish; two daughters, Judith May Plummer of Plymouth, MA, and Paula Ann Michaud and her husband, Steve, of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, Relio “Sonny” and Susan Thibodeau of Ocala, FL; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma and Francis Hines, Kit Mikol and Bea and Elmer Belanger all of CT, Emily Nuzzo of Port Orange, FL, Brenda and Pete Covini of Tampa, FL; eleven grandchildren; Richard Weathers, of Norton, MA, Rhonda Caldwell of Niles, OH, Tracy Keener of Worth, IL, Jeremy Barclay of Goshen, IN, Daniella Kobsas of Walnut Creek, CA, Lindsey Peed of Tucson, AZ, Wayne Barclay II of Plainville, CT, John Barclay, Travis Michaud, Trisha Stubbs, and Katie Scott, all of Caribou. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Leo J. Murphy of Augusta; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends called Tuesday December 17, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday December 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. Spring interment will take place at the New Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the mass at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Fellowship Hall.
