The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee held its annual meeting and dinner on Friday, December 13. The dinner and meeting were held at American Legion Post No. 15 in Caribou. This is the 10th year that the dinner has been held.    Harry Hafford, chairman of the NMVCC executive board, made it a point to highlight the many positives that the organization experienced throughout the 2013 year. He mentioned the newly constructed parking lot in the back of the American Legion, the walls of honor in the Veterans Cemetery, and the new committal shelter, also in the Veterans Cemetery. He, as well as other Executive Board members, expressed their appreciation toward all of the members on the committee. They have received great member support throughout the year.
The committee has plans in mind for the coming year. They would like to place sidewalks around the Walls of Honor so cemetery visitors have a nice walkway to look forward to when paying tribute to our veterans. They are also planning out a beautification project at the Veterans Cemetery and hope to have new trees, shrubbery and benches to make the cemetery more appealing. Lastly, for now, they hope to do more work on the new committal shelter as well as make more Aroostook County citizens aware of it.
As the meeting came to a close, members of the committee enjoyed their annual dinner. The supper was cooked by members of the American Legion Post No. 15 and its Ladies Auxiliary. While the committee is thankful to have access to the Legion to host their annual dinner and meetings, they are also very pleased with the constant support from NMVCC members. They always welcome and encourage new members.
