VASSALBORO, Maine — Fort Fairfield’s Robbie Watson shot a 1-under-par 71 Saturday to become the first Tiger golfer to win a state individual title.
Watson, a junior, claimed a five-stroke victory in the Class C tourney, which was held at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro. He also tied for the overall low round of the day.    “He was steady all day with his play from tee to green as he constantly put pressure on his playing partners, hitting his approach shots in tight and making several key putts,” said his coach, Larry Gardner.
Watson’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 17th hole.
Meanwhile, Limestone-MSSM’s Meghan Flanagin registered the third top-five finish of her career in the girls’ event.
The senior posted a 78 Saturday, placing her third and just two strokes behind co-champs Jenna Hallett of Presque Isle and Bailey Ploude of Lincoln.
“She scrambled exceptionally well,” said Eagle coach Tom Albert. “She kept her cool very well and moved on from shot to shot like a real trooper.”
In other local results, Caribou’s Dayne Savage shot a 92, which tied for 17th in Class B, and teammate Katie Pelletier, carded a 98, good for 10th among girls. The Tigers’ Noah Bernard had an 80, with Vince Campbell (99), Shyla Bouchard (112) and Jordann Coiley (113) so competing.
