The Certificate of Settlement for the years 2007-10 was approved and signed at the Selectpeople’s meeting held Wednesday, Oct. 2, which signifies that all of the taxes owed to the town during those years have been collected. The 2014 Municipal Valuation Return was signed, but the board refused the proposed 2014 State Valuation.
The board met with Jeff Harvey regarding progress on property maintenance issues. Most of the lawns Harvey was concerned about have been done except for an old building located on the corner or Grand Falls Road and Brook Street. Harvey wants this issue taken care of. If the owner does not repair the building and maintain upkeep he wants it torn down. The board asked town manager, Donna Bernier, to get all pertinent information on how to proceed with this matter.
Gary O’Neil brought up matters of the recreation department. He asked why recreational programs have been repeatedly cancelled. Bernier spoke to the rec director about this matter. A lack of sign up has caused recreational programs to be cancelled.
“If only one or two sign up for a program, it is not feasible to have that program,” Bernier said.
O’Neil also asked why the lights at the park are not used at night for youth soccer, citing that it is dark out and use of these lights should be considered. Bernier discussed matters with the rec director and the lights will now be turned on before youth soccer practices. Jim Cote asked if the rec bus is being used. He was informed that it is, in fact, being used when there are rec activities with sports teams, or school vacations.
Selectperson Chair Tom Devoe asked about the cleanup of old tires at a tax acquired property. The board voted to put the property up for sale by bid. The property will have to be clean within 60 days of awarding the winning bid.
