To the editor:
In last week’s paper, Sept. 11, 2013, the article on Troop 184 and its Eagle Scouts needs to be corrected.
Let me respond to that article. I am very proud of the boys that made Eagle Scout and all the other Eagle Scouts that have come before. These leaders should do more searching for all the facts on Troop 184 and give the credit where it is really due.
In April of 1937, Boy Scout Troop 184 of Caribou was organized under the sponsorship of the League of the Sacred Heart of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Rev. Valmore Lepine was one of those most responsible for its success. The scoutmaster was Clement McDonald with Lionel Blanchette and Lionel Guerrette as assistant scoutmasters. I have a certificate from the National Council Boy Scouts of America that Alberic Blanchette was awarded the first Eagle Scout in Aroostook County on Oct. 30, 1938. I also received information that Henry Ouellette also received his Eagle Scout in the late ‘30s.
