Youth soccer league begins in Caribou

    CARIBOU — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s pee wee soccer program kicked off with games played Aug. 26 and 28.
    In the grades 5-6 World League, Barcelona and Manchester United played the opening game. Team Barcelona played some strong defense led by Sam Marquis, Malachai Willey and Alaina Quinlan.  Offensive attacks were made by Kimmie Susi, Paige and Caleb Espling and Cullin Caverhill, who scored for Barcelona. Manchester United’s Ethan Holdsworth, Logan Cheplic and Brevin Barnes all put the ball past the tough Barcelona goal keepers. Both Jordan Duplessie and Matthew Smith played excellent defense and Owen Martin was stellar in goal.

    Chelsea and Real Madrid also squared off. Chelsea’s Riley Bouchard and Edie Shea scored first-half goals and Alex Bouchard, Carter Belanger and Edie Shea found the back of the net in the second half.
    This was a fantastic game from start to finish. Great defensive play was supplied by Sage Dubay and Alya Theriault.  Both played very aggressive and had a knack for getting the ball out of the offensive zone. Spencer Soucy shined in goal and made quite a few big saves. On the offensive side, Alex Bouchard showed great footwork and excellent passing skills in distributing to Shea and Riley Bouchard.
    Real Madrid battled the tough Chelsea team to the end in the opening game for both teams. Real Madrid’s first-half goal came off a penalty kick which was driven home by Hayden Hunter. Hunter followed with goals in the second half and was aided by some great play by teammates Ezra Judd and Tiernan Barbosa. Aiden Plante played well in goal, helping to keep the game close, while Abby St. Peter and Riley Cavagnaro played well throughout the game.
    The evenly-matched contest between Chelsea and Barcelona featured great play on both sides of the ball. There were some tremendous saves made by the Chelsea goalkeepers, keeping it close. Oliva Bouchard played a fantastic game and showed a “never give up” attitude. Carter Belanger and Edie Shea played very aggressive games, not afraid to take on bigger defenders. Alex Bouchard was the goal scorer for Chelsea.  Livia Bouchard, Brady Miller and Ben Lagasse all contributed with great passing and strong defense.
    Cullin Caverhill and Benoit Levesque each scored goals for team Barcelona in this contest. Levesque also added a couple assists to make for a great offensive performance. Each player on Barcelona gave a solid performance while on the field.
    Manchester United and Real Madrid played in the final game of the week. Despite missing several players, Real Madrid battled hard throughout. While they could not get on the scoreboard,  Kaden Demerchant played very well on the defensive end for the Madrid team as did Ezra Judd. Jack Doody hustled throughout the game, while Hayden Hunter worked hard in the midfield. Daniel Ouchenda showed good speed on offense along with Cheyanne Cormier.
    Madison Stratton and McKenna Smith played hard-nosed defense for Man U. Dakota Yakel and Devin Ouellette were solid in the midfield, controlling play. Owen Martin was once again excellent as goal keeper. Logan Cheplic and Ethan Holdworth connected with each other to score goals and Brevin Barnes also added an assist.
    In the grades 3-4 Premier League, the Timbers and Galaxy initiated the season with a match. The Timbers went to work early in this game with many goals being scored by multiple players: Logan Griffeth, Daryl Freeman, Darian Langille, Jude Shea and Avery Knowles. Assisting the goals were Carly Strid and Langille. Defensively, Liam Dee played incredibly strong by stopping many Galaxy attacks, and Annalise Jandreau made some great passes up the field to teammates for some good offensive runs.
    The Galaxy made a great comeback in this contest with goals being scored by Lauren Craig, Ari Plante and Reece Cavagnaro. Dawson Whitten and Mia Theriault assisted on the goals and played well while on the offensive attack. Goaltending was great with Saffayia Durepo, Trey Gilbert, Plante and Jaedon Jones sharing the duties.
    The Revolution and the Red Bulls were the next teams up. It was overall effort by team Revolution during the entire contest. Kaleb Finelli and Naomi Cote played good defense. Ryan Austin and Tanner Prashaw made some good saves in goal and Jaden Picard seemed to be everywhere as he exhibited great hustle throughout the game.
    Colin Poitras, Griffin McNeal and Ashlyn Bouchard all had goals to lead the Red Bulls. Abby McNeal contributed on defense and Jacob Palmer played well in goal.
    In the matchup between the Revolution and the Galaxy, the Revs received great goal keeping from Ryan Austin, Jayden Picard, Tanner Prashaw and Kaleb Finelli. Ahlanda Engstrom, Tilly Seaman and Alexis Gustin were strong contributors on the field as well. Eliott Sleeper scored his team’s lone goal.
    This was another great game for the Galaxy team as goaltending, shared by Saffayia Durepo and Kate Doody, was excellent. The game ended in a tie with Reece Cavagnaro connecting for a goal from Ari Plante’s incredible pass.
    The Timbers and Red Bull concluded the week’s play and Colin Poitras, Griffin McNeal and PJ McDonough all found the back of the net for the Red Bulls. Konnor Huckins and Araya Caverhill had solid performances on both ends of the field.
    The Timbers were led offensively by Jude Shea and Zack Judd, who each capitalized on their scoring opportunities. Assisting on the goals were Darian Langille, Daryl Freeman and Logan Griffeth. Liam Dee was outstanding defensively and Christopher Corbin powered the ball up the field and passed it off to the offense every chance he had.
