Viking golfers fall to Aroostook rivals

  The Caribou Vikings lost a pair of close golf matches to fellow Penobscot Valley Conference schools from Aroostook County last week.
    The Presque Isle Wildcats topped the Vikes at Caribou Country Club last Wednesday, 182-186.     
    Tyler Dombroski had the low round for Caribou with a 44, followed by Dayne Savage with a 45 and Donovan Savage with a 46.

    The Wildcats’ Michael Boone was the medalist with a 41. Josh Gordon, Jenna Hallett, Liam Hughes and Carter LaPointe all carded 47s.
Caribou also dropped a 167-176 match at Houlton Friday. In that one, Dayne Savage was the medalist with a 39. Donovan Savage had a 45, while Dombroski and Justin Ouellette carded 46s.
For the Shires, Ryan Dee carded a 41 and Cameron Clark, Garrett Putnam and Parker Brewer 42s.
    Coach Daren Hunter’s Wildcats, who also hosted a “County Play Day” Saturday, is scheduled to host Houlton today and Caribou Friday.
    Fort Fairfield has been dominating the Aroostook County scene in Class C and has yet to suffer defeat.
    The Tigers bested Central Aroostook at their home course, Aroostook Valley Country Club, last Wednesday. Fort captured 10.5 of the 11 available match points.
    Robbie Watson had a 39 and Noah Bernard a 40 for the winners, while Alex Folsom shot a 46 to lead the Panthers.
    On Thursday at Portage Hills Country Club, the Tigers shut out both Ashland and Limestone-MSSM.
    Watson shot a 40 and Bernard came in with a 43.
    Megan Flanagin paced Limestone-MSSM with a 44 and was also the medalist in her team’s match against the Hornets.
    Tyler Morgan followed with a 53 for the Eagles, who defeated Ashland in match play, 11-0, and in medal play, 237-263.
