Cary awarded Joint Commission accreditation

CARIBOU — Cary Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals.

The accreditation award recognizes Cary Medical Center’s dedication to continuous compliance with the commission’s state-of-the-art standards.
Cary underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey in April of this year. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated the hospital for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.
“In achieving Joint Commission accreditation, Cary Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients,” said Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Joint Commission executive director of hospital programs, accreditation and certification services. “Accreditation is a voluntary process and I commend the hospital for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”
Cary’s CEO, Kris Doody, RN, said that the accreditation award recognizes the efforts hospital staff members are making to provide a high level of quality care.
“With Joint Commission accreditation, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down. Joint Commission accreditation provides us a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps create a culture of excellence,” Doody commented. “Achieving Joint Commission accreditation for our organization is a major step toward maintaining excellence and continually improving the care we provide.”
Doody also noted that the accreditation survey impacts all levels of the hospital from the board of directors to the support staff.
“ The success of our accreditation award is thanks to our entire Cary family and the outstanding work that they do each and every day in caring for our patients,” said Doody.
The Joint Commission’s hospital standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
