• Camping out — In their advertisement, the Shaw & Mitton store “wishes to call your attention to one of the finest selected stocks of camping out supplies in Aroostook” which includes: meats in glass and cans, Heinz pickles and “just arrived” Sunshine crackers.
• South Caribou news — R. W. Glidden, a carpenter from Presque Isle, has been putting up a large building for O. A. Glidden to be used for storing wagons and other rolling stock necessary on a large farm. P. E. Turner has recently purchased a Paige Detroit car of Gorham Shaw; this makes ten we believe for South Caribou. W. F. Wright, W. S. Bailey and son, John, returned Monday night from a fishing trip. There is some talk of a blacksmith shop being put up at the four corners near Crystal spring.
75 Years Ago-June 30, 1938
• Grocery is family affair — A local business transaction of interest occurred this week when the Economy Shop at 12 High Street, owned by Wilbur P. Roberts, was purchased by his two sons Prescott and Duane. The business, opened in 1929, has steadily grown and has now been renamed “Roberts Brothers Economy Shop.”
• Showering a bride — Miss Mildred Downing was surprised Tuesday evening with a dollar shower in honor of her approaching marriage to Judge Irvine E. Peterson. After attending the movies at the Powers Theater, all went to the home of Mrs. Richard Flora on High Street. When all were seated, Nathalie Cleo Flora, dressed in a red raincoat and outfit, and in red boots, presented Miss Downing with a red umbrella which was lined with dollar bills, reciting at the same time an appropriate poem.

• Caribou zipcode announced — Caribou’s five-digit Zip Code is 04736, Postmaster A. Atwood Anderson announced today. “Everyone in Caribou will use the ZIP Code on all their correspondence to speed mail deliveries and reduce the chance of mis-sent mail,” he said.
• Burgess playground opens — Activity at the new summer playground facilities at Burgess Village got underway this week it was announced by Allan Cousins, director of recreation. The new playground, under the supervision of Miss Katie Beale, assisted by Ronald Brown, will offer a full days program with special emphasis placed on arts and crafts.
25 Years Ago-June 29, 1988
• Winning runners and walkers — Bob Everett of Fort Fairfield and Theresa Martin of Caribou were the winners in the first Cannonball 5K. Behind Everett were Willie Thompson, Richard Hartford, Frank Frost and Jason Carter. Stephanie Fields captured top honors in the 15-19 female division. Other winners were Ralph McElwain (60 and over), Carol McElwee (40-49 female), Jack Morgan (50-59 male) and Russell Arndt (40-49 male). In the walker’s division, Rena Levesque crossed the finish line first.
• Fire totals Washburn School — An early morning fire of unknown origin raged out of control yesterday as firefighters were unsuccessful in saving the town’s newly-renovated elementary school. Construction on the building had started last winter and was 98 percent complete. The new facility was never used by students.
