CARIBOU — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for its summer session.
Summer program booklets are being dispersed to youths up to grades 9 at their local schools. Non-residents are welcome to come into the recreation center to pick up a booklet. Programs can also be viewed online at www.caribourec.org or by visiting the department’s Facebook page.
The registration dates are Wednesday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. for residents only and Thursday, June 13 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. for residents and non-residents. Please note that non-residents that pay property tax in Caribou are considered a resident and can register on June 12.
The age cut-off date for recreation programs is April 30 unless otherwise noted. All participants must register in the correct age or grade category for all programs. A listing of the programs being offered by the recreation department is as follows.
Baseball and softball are once again offered this year at the Teague Park ball field, starting June 24. Single A – Spinners baseball is for youths 5 years of age and meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Single A – Salem Sox baseball for 6-year-olds meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Double AA- Sea Dogs baseball for 7-8 year olds meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:15-2:30 p.m. Triple AAA – Paw Sox baseball for ages 9-10 meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:45-4 p.m. Majors baseball for ages 11-12 meets Wednesdays from 10:30-11:45 a.m. and Fridays from 10-11:15 am.
Junior girls softball for ages 8-12 meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Senior girls softball for ages 13-16 meets Mondays from 10:30-11:45 a.m.
The Caribou outdoor swimming pool is located on Glenn Street. General swim starts June 24 and run through Aug. 8. The hours are Monday through Friday from 2-4 p.m. and Saturday from noon-4 pm. Children 6 years of age and under must be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian. Children that are not potty-trained must wear rubberized, elastic-legged coverings in the water.
Swimming lessons will be offered for swimmers of all abilities. Participants must be at least 6 years of age or entering first grade. Lessons are offered in half-hour sessions Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Swimming lessons will be offered in three-week sessions over the summer period. Session dates are detailed in the program booklet. The lesson levels range from alligators to advanced swimmers. There is also a swim team which meets Monday through Thursday from 4-5 p.m. for ages 6-18.
Tennis lessons are offered in two-week sessions throughout the summer for ages 6-18. The levels are beginners, advanced beginners, intermediates and advanced intermediates. Tennis tikes are for 6-8 year olds. Tennis team is also available for interested youths throughout the summer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
The CRX Take Me Outside program returns and is for youths in grades 5-9, with eight weeks of adventures planned. Call 493-4224 for program specifics or go to caribourec.org.

This year, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Kathy Mazzuchelli wishes to remind residents and non-residents alike that there now will be fees invoked for all organized recreation programs. Please note that all fees are due at registration.
Resident fees and charges
For residents, programs will run $10 per child per program with additional fees associated with certain programs that include shirts and/or equipment. There is also an annual fee option of $50 per child, payable once per year and the child would be eligible for all programs covered under the fee schedule. Please note this does not include CRX programs, the 13-15 baseball program and Caribou Community Pool sessions, which all have separate fee schedules.
Non-resident fees and charges
Non-residents are eligible for programs under the fee structure as well. Programs will run $25 per child per program, with additional fees associated with certain programs that include shirts and/or equipment. There is also an annual fee option for non residents of $125 per child, payable once per year and the child would be eligible for all programs covered under the fee schedule. This does not include CRX programs, the 13-15 baseball program and pool sessions, which all have separate fee schedules. Non- residents opting to pay an annual fee may not register on the same day as residents. Non-resident registration will begin June 13.
Caribou Community Pool

There will be fees assessed at the Caribou Community Pool this summer for both general swim and instructional programs. Registration for instructional programs will be done beginning June 12 with resident registration. All instructional registrations must be done at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. The fees for instructional programs are as follows:
Residents: $10 per child per session and $1 per day for general swim; or a combination pass is available for $25 which would include one lesson session and a season’s general swim.
Non-residents: $25 per child per session and $1 per day for general swim. Combination passes are not available for non-residents.
Program assistance fund
The recreation department has developed a program assistance fund that will be available for those people meeting eligibility criteria. Please note determination of eligibility for the program assistance fund must be determined prior to registration.
