CARIBOU — Cary Medical Center recognized 83 employees with combined service to the hospital of over 1,250 years during its annual Employee Longevity Awards Banquet on May 4 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. The event recognizes employees who have reached specific milestones in their years of employment.
Organized by the hospital’s human resources department, many employees and guests came in disco-themed costume to celebrate the achievements of the staff.
David Sleeper, who is in his second term as Cary’s chairman of the board of directors, offered remarks acknowledging the outstanding efforts of hospital employees. In his comments, Sleeper noted the success of a recent national survey of the hospital conducted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
“When I was invited to the leadership interview part of the survey process,” Sleeper said, “I sat next to the lead member of the survey team, a physician who has been with the Joint Commission for 20 years. The things he said about the hospital, about the level of care provided, the friendliness and welcoming nature of the staff, and just overall quality of Cary, really is a great source of pride for me as a board member and for our entire community.”
Sleeper also credited the contributions that employees have made for the outcome of the Joint Commission survey and said that having the opportunity to recognize employees is a highlight of his service on the board.
Following dinner, the employees received awards for every five years of service. Special recognition was given to those employees who have 20 years or more of employment with the hospital.
During the ceremony, Cary’s CEO, Kris Doody, RN, pointed out that the hospital is very fortunate to have such loyal and dedicated staff.
“We have been working very hard in recent years to become the employer and provider of choice,” said Doody. “The many years of service and the high level of performance that is represented in these 83 employees is clear evidence that we are accomplishing these goals.
