CARIBOU — This past weekend the streets of Caribou were bustling with bargain hunters as the city’s annual City-Wide Yard Sale was another success.
“There were people everywhere!” exclaimed Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce Director William Tasker.
It was Tasker’s first year as chamber director and yard sale coordinator.
“There were some mistakes made with distribution of the maps,” Tasker admitted, “but I have learned from the mistakes and will be better prepared next year.”
Side streets all around town were lined with cars — even an Amish horse and buggy was spotted tooling around — and area businesses, from restaurants to hotels, were filled with hopeful shoppers.
“The minute we opened the garage at 6:30, it’s been steady,” said sale holder Lindsey Mazerolle. “We’ve sold a lot of clothes and kids’ toys.”
Joyce Malone, who no longer lives in Caribou, came back to town with her daughter just for the sale.
“I bought a Columbia hat for $1,” Malone said, “and we’ve bought a ton of clothes. Kids books for 10 cents. It’s been great!”
Charitable organizations also got in on the act, hosting sales to raise money for their cause.
“People have been very generous,” said Cuppy Johndro, whose Relay for Life team was holding a bake sale and hot dog roast at the end of Paris Snow Drive.
According to Tasker, over 100 sales were signed up this year.
The City-Wide Yard Sale is held every year on the third weekend in May.
