The Fort Fairfield and Limestone-MSSM softball teams meet up for the first time on the season this afternoon in Limestone, and there are plenty of points on the line as both squads enter the contest with excellent resumes.
The Tigers are in third place with their 8-1 record, while the Eagles come in as the No. 2 team in Eastern Maine Class D with an 8-0 mark.
The two teams will play again May 23 in Fort Fairfield.
Washburn has cooled off after a quick start, but is still in eighth place with a 3-4 record.
The Caribou softball team, after being swept in a doubleheader by Hermon Monday, owns a 5-4 record which places them 16th in the EM ‘B’ rankings. Only the top 13 teams will advance into the post-season.
Summaries of last week’s games are as follows:
Hermon 10, Caribou 4 — On Monday, Kelsie Espling’s RBI double was Caribou’s highlight in a 10-4 loss at home to the Hawks in the opener of a doubleheader.
Hermon jumped out to the early lead, scoring four times in the first inning and adding two more in the second, and held on.
Hermon 8, Caribou 1 — The Hawks collected the sweep and improved to 9-1 on the season behind Kylie Kennedy, who blasted a two-run homer in the seventh to help break open a close game.
Amber Bonewicz and Jordyn Doucette had two hits each and Espling added an RBI double for Caribou at the plate.
Limestone-MSSM 20, Washburn 8 — The Eagles put 13 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to ease to another win, their eighth of the season without a loss.
Kelsee Albert, Melissa Cantafio, Ellyzabeth Bencivenga and Madeline Williams all had three hits as part of the 18-hit onslaught. They combined for 11 RBIs.
Nicole Olson had two hits to pace the Beaver offense.
Fort Fairfield 21, Wisdom 3 — The Tigers continued their winning ways Monday as Autumn Parady had three singles and Abbey Player and Kayla Giberson collected two each.
Fort Fairfield 18, Fort Kent 2 — On Thursday, the Tigers’ Jordann Coiley had a one-hitter as her team soundly defeated the Warriors. Coiley struck out nine batters and took a no-hitter into the fifth before Cassandra Douglas had a single the broke it up.

Caribou 12, Fort Kent 0 — Bonewicz tossed a five-inning no-hitter and helped her cause by belting a pair of home runs as Caribou rolled on the road last Wednesday.
Bonewicz, who struck out 10 Warriors batters, finished with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, while Doucette had four hits, including two homers and five RBIs.
Limestone-MSSM 18, Ashland 13 — The visiting Eagles trailed after five innings last Wednesday, but plated six runs in the top of the sixth to stay perfect.
Bencivenga had a homer, a triple, a double and a single and scored four runs to lead the offense for the Eagles. Chelsey Pelkey added three hits.
Caitlin Paradis and Rachel Gillis contributed two hits each for the Hornets.
Central Aroostook 16, Washburn 7 — Page Fletcher had two hits and Megan King doubled to lead the Panthers past the Beavers last Wednesday.
Freshman Karli Levesque earned the win on the mound.
Grace Braley had two hits and Rayah Saucier drove in a pair of runs with a double for the Beavers.
Limestone-MSSM 20, Madawaska 8 — Cantafio fanned 13 batters and was an offensive leader with a double and a triple and three RBIS as the Eagles won another game on the road last Tuesday.
Leah Kihn had four hits and two RBIs, while Pelkey, Bencivenga and Kassee Albert notched three hits apiece for Limestone-MSSM.
Ashland 11, Washburn 8 — On the Hornets’ home field last Tuesday, Shea Craig again provided a valuable stint of relief pitching as Ashland came from behind for the triumph.
Craig allowed only one hit in her 4-1/3 innings of relief, striking out five batters along the way. Allyx Beaulier had three hits and Paradis added two for the Hornets.
Brittany Corey had three hits to lead the Beavers at the plate.
