Editors Note: Fifth-grader Josh Ostlund of the Woodland Consolidated School so enjoyed his class’ participation in the program Fish Friends, he decided to write a story about it last month for the Aroostook Republican’s annual issue of Newspapers in Education. Josh’s timely article is accompanying the news of the successful release of the fishes.

At Woodland school there are fish hatching in grade 5. They can’t swim too well yet but they’re OK. They can hop on the bottom of the fish tank but not for long because the’re young and they look like fish on balls. The hatched ones, they’re in the alevin-stage that’s before the fry.
People can’t resist the cuteness of them and can’t do work without looking at them. There are about 150 fish here and they’re lively enough to move but not around the fish tank, if you want the names of the kids that are doing this they are …  Grace, Alexis, Ariel, Joshua, Delano and Andrew. Here are the fish and the friends.
Here are the fish in the fish tank. When you look in the fish tank you will think the fish look like they’re all eggs but if you look hard enough you can see their little bodies. The stages of this fish are egg, eyed egg, alevin, fry, smolt, and adult salmon.
