A pair of track meets were held during the recent spring vacation week, the first on April 15 in Brewer and the second on Saturday in Bangor.
In the most recent one, held at Cameron Stadium, the Caribou girls were able to garner a second-place finish with 141 points. A total of eight schools competed.
Turning in first-place performances for the Vikings were Chelsea Bard in the 3,200-meter run in 13 minutes, 14.73 seconds; Alissa Irving in the 1,600-meter race walk in 9:51.88; and the 4 X 800-meter relay team, consisting of Robyn Larrabee, Nerissa Larrabee, Chelsea Haney and Elise Gudde, with a time of 12:04.8.
Olivia Sleeper placed third in the 100-meter dash (14.11) and the 400 (1:07.55), while Sarah Doak was second in the 1,600 (5:51.37) and third in the 800 (2:41.46) and Bard third in the 1,600 (6:02.94). Nerissa Larrabee was second in the 3,200 (13:32.7), while Robyn Larrabee took third (13:35.43). Hannah Hebert came in third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches).
Meredith Sleeper placed second in the race walk (10:22.78) and Jessika Kovach was third (11:13.01) as the Vikes swept the top six positions.
The Caribou boys came in third place in their meet with 79 points. Leading the Vikes were Sean Barbosa, who was second in the 400 in 57.14 seconds and third in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches; Lucas Kinney, second in the 3,200 in 11:17.17; Mitchell St. Peter, second in the race walk in 8:52.74; and Tyler Strid, third in the race walk in 9:54.5.
In the kick-off meet held at Brewer, the Caribou girls placed third out of 11 teams with 89 points. Doak won the 1,600 in 5:47.59 and Sleeper prevailed in the 400 in 1:07.97. Also turning in top-three efforts were the 4 X 100 relay team of Chaya Karunasiri, Hebert, Alyssa Randolph and Reanna Plourde), third in 58.8; Sleeper in the race walk, third in 10:44.37; Mackenzie Deveau in the 400, third in 1:10.53; Doak in the 800, third in 2:41.51; Bard in the 3,200, third in 13:21.91; and Hebert in the triple jump, third in 29 feet, eight inches.
The Vikings scored 53 points in the boys’ meet, led by St. Peter’s victory in the race walk in 9:16.86. He was followed by teammates Strid (10:45.2) and Draper (10:54.55).
The 4 X 800 relay team, made up of Alex Losieniecki, Austin Griffeth, Draper and Kinney, came in second in 9:39.52.
The Caribou track teams will next compete in a relay meet held at Mount Desert Island Saturday.
