    Hazel A. Hersey, 85, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at a Caribou nursing facility after a brief illness. She was born October 28, 1927, in Caribou, the daughter of Theodore and Jenny (Little) Patterson.
    She attended Caribou Schools and worked for a time at Birdseye Foods in Caribou. She had been a resident of the Mars Hill Nursing Home, Eagle Lake Nursing Home, Borderview Nursing Home in Van Buren, Highview Manor in Madawaska, Limestone Manor, and most recently Caribou Nursing Home.
    In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Perley A. Hersey in 1989; one son, Daniel “Sonny” Hersey; one brother, Robert Patterson; and one sister, Olive Everett. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Elwood “Bucky” and Nancy Hersey of Anthony, FL, Lloyd and Doris Hersey of Memphis, TN; two daughters and son-in-law, Rhoda Hersey of Ashboro, SC, Evelina and Albert Farley of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, Theodore “Howard” II and Lula Patterson of Limestone; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    Friends called Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. The funeral service was conducted Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with Pastor Troy Heald officiating. Spring internment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Hazel to the Caribou Nursing and Rehab Center, 10 Bernadette Street, Caribou, ME 04736. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
