Cheerleaders place fourth in state

    The Caribou Vikings captured fourth place in the Eastern Maine Class B Cheerleading Championship, held Monday at the Bangor Auditorium.
    The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to the snowstorm.

    Caribou, coached by Brandi Makepeace-Cote, tallied 130.2 points to finish behind only the champion Hermon Hawks, who had 155; Medomak Valley of Waldoboro (148.1) and Ellsworth (146.8).
    Members of the Vikings, who had tied for third at the Eastern Maine Championships held Jan. 26,  include Sabrina Haney, Jenni Blaisdell, Gabi Ingersoll, Brianna Marte, Jessica Sedar, Melanie Biggs, Becca Malm, Mariesa Sarmiento, Chaya Karunasiri, Emma Jandreau, Mariella Marte, Karina Patterson, Vicky Fraser, Irene Thibodeau, Taylor St. Peter, Lyndsay Rowland, Laiken Tarbox, Madelyn Malone, Kelsey St. Peter, Hilary Jalbert, Kristen Haley and Mallory Patterson.
    In the Class D competition, Washburn placed sixth with 98.2 points. Deer Isle-Stonington took first place with 117.4. The Mariners were followed by Central Aroostook, which had won the previous five state titles and had a score of 115.
