Congregation, community help Sandy victims

CARIBOU — Teachers of  the year from Maine and New Jersey recently worked together to help victims of last fall’s Superstorm Sandy.

After identifying a need for urgent donations, Maine’s 2012 Teacher of the Year Alana Margeson and 2012 New Jersey Teacher of the Year Jeanne DelColle and other East Coast teachers of the year were able to help their coastal neighbors by being paired with a specific school with the greatest needs.
With help from Women’s Group and Sunday School of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church in New Sweden, who each donated $500, the funds were used to help purchase winter supplies to 51 “adopted” seventh- and eighth-graders at Southern Regional Middle School in Manahawkiin, N.J.; these students home and much of their school were lost/damaged in Superstorm Sandy.
Also assisting with the fundraising were students and staff of the Caribou High School.
