LIMESTONE — The town of Limestone will hold its fourth annual Winter Fun Day on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Limestone Community School. Groups and organizations from the town of Limestone will pitch in and provide a variety of free outdoor activities for the entire family to enjoy.

Originally established by the Limestone Rotary Club, area groups have since helped Rotarians grow the event each year. The new addition for this year: outdoor laser tag. Outdoor laser tag will be provided by G-Force Laser Tag and will be open to individuals of all ages.

A number of other activities will also take place during the entire four hours of the event. Individuals are encouraged to stay the entire span as there will be plenty of outdoor activities to keep people of all ages busy, as well as indoor activities in case people need to take a break and go inside to warm up.

The Maine School of Science and Mathematics will once again provide the extremely popular dog sledding activity. Individuals are invited to ride the sled as dogs pull them around a five-minute loop. Children under the age of 5 must be accompanied by an adult and individuals are invited to take as many rides as they would like throughout the day.

The Limestone Ski Club will be on site with the ski trailer from the Maine Winter Sports Center. Participants will be able to use the skis for free and ski around the trails that are maintained and groomed all winter long behind the Limestone Community School and out to Trafton Lake Campground. The Ski Club will help fit participants with the properly sized skis, boots and poles. All ages are invited to participate in this activity as well.

Tubes and sleds will be provided by the Limestone Recreation Department and will be available for use all day. The SnowHawks, Limestone’s snowmobile club, will also be on hand to give rides behind their snowmobiles throughout the entire day. Limestone Rotary Club members will sell hotdogs and marshmallows to be roasted on their fire pit. A bonfire will also be at the site for participants to enjoy.

In addition, individuals are invited to take part in a couple of activities indoors in an effort to get people warmed up and get back outside to play. The Limestone Chamber of Commerce will provide arts and crafts for children as well as The Aroostook Paranormal Investigation Society (T.A.P.I.S.) will hold an activity where participants will be able to make their own “boo” out of rice krispies. Boo is the organization’s mascot. They will also provide coloring materials as an additional activity.

The Maine School of Science and Mathematics will put on a Clam Bake. The menu will consist of seafood chowder, steamers, rope mussels and corn bread. The cost for food is $10 for the entire menu or $5 for just a bowl of chowder for adults and children under the age of 12 can get the entire menu for only $5. For an entire family of four the cost to get the entire menu for each individual will only cost $25 total. An additional chicken stew will be available as an alternative to the other menu items and is available for $5.

All proceeds from the Clam Bake will go towards MSSM’s Student Activity Fund.

“Winter Fun Day is an opportunity for families to enjoy a day of fun together, outside in the snow,” stated Limestone Rotary Club President Dave King. For this fourth annual event, all activities have been designed in an effort to keep families busy, having fun outside for the entire day.

Besides the activities that include refreshments, all activities are free of charge and families are encouraged to participate in as many as they wish. Parking will be available in the front of the school and it is requested that no vehicles drive on the sides of the building as all of the activities will be taking place around the school and pedestrians will be crossing.
