Caribou — Stewart M. Cousins, 75, died January 1, 2013, at Van Buren after a brief illness. He was born in Caribou February 13, 1937, the son of the late Louis and Mildred (Matthews) Cousins. He was a 1955 graduate of Caribou High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Husson. He served with the US Air Force and was a lifetime member of the Caribou United Baptist Church. He married Harriett (Emery) Cousins and she predeceased him in 2005. Mr. Cousins was a retired educator with the Caribou School Department, having taught business classes at Caribou High School for over 33 years. He was a member of the Caribou Historical Society and the Maine Teachers Association. Stewart was a loving husband and father and truly enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp at Cross Lake.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Kim Cousins of Woodland; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Dale Chamberland of St. Agatha; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Helen Cousins of Vermont, Ralph Cousins of Millinocket and Carroll Cousins of Lubec; one brother-in-law, Albert “Wes” Parlee of Orrington; six grandchildren, Ryan and Shelby Cousins and Robbie, Kevin, Matthew and Joshua Chamberland; one great-grandchild, Vance; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cousins was predeceased by a son, Leigh; a daughter-in-law, Tina; and two grandchildren, Cortina and Cody.
Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, from the Caribou United Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
