ELLSWORTH — The Caribou Vikings, on Friday at the Down East Family YMCA, had their second swimmer qualify for the Class B state meet.
Austin Scott pulled off the feat by finishing the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1 minute, 14.96 seconds. He joined teammate Darren Newbegin, who also did so in the 100 butterfly at an earlier meet, as the team’s only state qualifiers thus far.
The team’s coach, Erin Tateishi-Ouellette, said that Grant Bennett is also close to having a qualifying time in the 50-yard freestyle. He is currently less than a second off, according to the coach.
Ellsworth’s boys and girls dominated the Jan. 4 meet. The Eagle boys won, 107-30, while the girls came out on top, 100-40.
