Sheba is a beautiful 1-year-old female who resides at a Halfway Home Pet Rescue foster home and who will be spayed and ready for adoption at the adoption fair on Saturday, Jan. 19 for $25. According to volunteers, Sheba is very gentle, clean and loving; she’s also a tiny bit shy, but gets over that quickly once she knows her environment is safe. “Sheba is good around other cats and would be a great family pet for any family,” said HHPR President Norma Milton. “We think she would be fine with dogs once they have made their introductions.” Milton also mentioned that the shelter greatly appreciates the generous support they have received from donors and volunteer helpers. “HHPR is able to spay/neuter and give all other medical care for four cats a weeks from just the business collection jars,” Milton said. “We are able to provide all surgical and medical to four cats a month due to the kindness of people who give their returnable bottles and cans to our cause. This week we are working with a local farmer to provide sterilization surgery to 21 barn cats that have been dropped off at his barn over the years. The farmer will provide the space and food for these cats to live out their lives, but there will be no more breeding. We are currently providing supplies to the feeders of four feral colonies so we can catch and spay/neuter these cats as soon as possible and avoid the spring babies.” HHPR cats are leukemia/AIDS tested negative, have been spayed or neutered, received parasite prevention treatment and have a current distemper and rabies vaccination. HHPR kittens from 9 weeks to 5 months old are adoptable for $55 and are adopted with a spay/neuter voucher for the vet to bill HHPR for the surgery. The shelter’s new location at 489 South Main St. is open by appointment only for adoption and on every Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. HHPR is a 501 c3 non-profit and their mailing address is PO Box 488, Caribou, Maine 04736. Their website is www.halfwayhomepetrescue.org and they can be found both on petfinder.com and Facebook. FMI call Mary Rowe at 999-1075.
