Vikings split weekend games

On Saturday, the Caribou Vikings bounced back from consecutive losses, including a blowout the previous evening against Mount Desert Island, to ease past Ellsworth at CHS.

The Vikings, who began the season with three consecutive road games, played their third straight at home Monday when they took on Foxcroft Academy. They travel to Houlton tonight for a key tilt against the unbeaten Shires.

Summaries of local boys’ games played through Saturday are as follows:

Caribou 72, Ellsworth 52 — The Vikings defeated the Eagles at home Saturday in an impressive all-around performance.

Dayne Savage scored 26 points, while Derek Richardson and Dylan Berkoski added 12 and 10, respectively, for Caribou.

Steve Mahon’s 23 points led the Eagles.

Washburn 78, Fort Kent 53 — At Fort Kent Saturday, Mitchell Worcester netted a game-high 29 points and sophomore guard Cameron Bragg added a career-high 21 as the Beavers prevailed.

Charlie Nadeau scored 18 for the Warriors.

Central Aroostook 64, Fort Fairfield 57 — The Panthers outscored the Tigers, 22-8, in the fourth quarter to register the win at Fort Fairfield Saturday afternoon.

CA, who also beat Fort Fairfield at home on Dec. 11, trailed by seven entering the final eight minutes before making its comeback. Chandler Brewer had 27 points to lead the way, with Steven Decker netted 14, Joe Stiles nine and Spencer Garrison eight.

Andrew Lewis was a force for the Tigers with 36 points and 16 rebounds in the losing cause.

Mount Desert Island 76, Caribou 54 — The Trojans scored 45 second-half points to breeze past the Vikings Friday at CHS.

Ben Walls had 19 points and Jon Phelps 17 to lead the MDI offense.

Cody Herbert netted 14 and Devin Berkoski came off the bench for 10 fourth-quarter points to key the Viking offense.

Limestone-MSSM 60, Wisdom 39 — The Eagles won for the second time this season in convincing fashion at St. Agatha Friday.

Dean Clavet and Nate Tucker scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Limestone-MSSM.

Nate Boynton poured in 23 for the winless Pioneers.

Old Town 59, Caribou 47 — At Old Town Dec. 22, the Vikings were handed their first loss of the season as Garrett Libby, the reigning Big East Conference player of the year, torched the nets for a game-high 23 points to lead the way for the Coyotes.

Herbert scored 15 points and Savage added 13 for Caribou.

Southern Aroostook 55, Limestone-MSSM 42 — The Warriors got a big game from Jesse Boulier to pull out a victory on the road in Limestone Dec. 22.

Boulier posted 23 points and also grabbed four steals to lead Southern Aroostook. Will McGary notched a game-high 13 rebounds for the winners.

Brandon Thompson had 13 points and Tucker contributed 12 for the Eagles.
