FORT FAIRFIELD & CARIBOU – Wallace H. “Herbie” Blaisdell Jr., 77, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, December 13, 2012, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born March 20, 1935, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Wallace H. Sr. and Palmire O. (Dionne) Blaisdell.
He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1953, and went on to further his education at Ricker College, Houlton. Herbie served with the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 as a corporal, and later served with the Maine National Guard as a staff sergeant from 1976 to 1995. He also had been employed as a potato inspector from 1960 to 1963, and had been employed at the former Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, from 1963 to 1976. He had been a member of the American Legion O’Bar-Phair Post Number 127, Limestone, and had been a member of the Eastern Frontier Masonic Lodge Number 112 AF & AM, Fort Fairfield since 1961 and had been a member of the Limestone Masonic Lodge Number 214 AF & AM from 1990 to present.
In addition to his parents, Herbie was predeceased by one sister, Joan Thomas.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Alan H. and Kerri Blaisdell of Fort Fairfield; one brother, Robert Blaisdell of Caribou; three grandchildren, Alison Blaisdell-Sanders and her husband, Nathaniel of San Diego, CA, Emily and Lindsay Blaisdell, both of Fort Fairfield. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his special friend and companion, Joyce Violette of Caribou; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 12:15 p.m. by the officers and members of the Limestone Lodge Number 214 AF & AM. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment will take place at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Blaisdell to the Fort Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, 18 Community Center Drive, Fort Fairfield, 04742, attention: Paul Durepo. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
