CARIBOU — After almost a year of planning, students of the Caribou High School will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. with the American Red Cross.

This will be the first of two annual blood drives coordinated by students, and they’re hoping for at least 130 donors, which equates to approximately 130 pints of blood; according to the American Red Cross website, one pint of blood can save up to three lives.

“[The Student Council] feels that it is very important to help in as many ways as possible,” explained Chair of the Blood Drive Clara Collins. “The Blood drives we host save many lives and that is a great feeling, knowing that you have contributed.”

Those wishing to help contribute to the success of the blood drive can sign up at www.redcrossblood.org or drop by the school during the event’s hours.

“It’s a fairly simple process, and we are hoping to get the community involved as much as possible,” Collins said, adding that knowing that you’ve been a part of something as special as saving a life is a pretty great thing.

Aside from the community service and life-saving donations, Student Council Adviser Daniel Fishman feels that having the Council’s organization of the blood drives is beneficial for the students.

“That way, they get to see what it’s like to become active members of society and to help save lives,” Fishman said.
