By William J. Tasker
Executive director
Welcome to the first of what will be regular reports on the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce and its members!
Perhaps the first big news for this week is me. I am the new director of the chamber and started the position on Monday, Nov. 26. I am thrilled with this new position for many different reasons and look forward to many years serving the area. I thank the board and the city for this wonderful opportunity.
Some of the things being worked on immediately include a fresh update for the chamber’s website, a greater emphasis on promoting our members on our Facebook site and making processes here at the office more automated and electronic.
The website needs to be much more dynamic and easy to navigate and it needs to do a much better job of illuminating our member businesses and services. Plus, the new site will allow the pages to be changed easily and often right here in the office.
If you have not yet “liked” our Facebook page, please take a moment and do so. That social network site can really allow the members we serve to shine. As I visit our members, I will be taking pictures and will share them on the Facebook page. I hope to feature four businesses a week there. Since this first week was all about getting knee deep into things, one of our newest members, Sweet Dreams Candy & Bake Shoppe, is our first and only feature this week.
In new member news, a warm and hearty welcome goes to The Northern Lighthouse Inc. This mental health agency is making Caribou its third home and currently has offices in Mars Hill and Presque Isle. The Northern Lighthouse Inc. offers Section 28 and 65, residential, out-patient case management and counseling programs and serves clients from all over Aroostook County.
Final preparations were made for Santa’s Workshop and new events are currently in the planning stages including the Citizen of the Year event. Keep reading as the weeks go by as those plans take shape. Also coming in February is a membership meeting, the first in quite a while. Stay tuned and when the date and time is announced, please, if you are a chamber member, make plans to attend. We would love to see you.
Please feel free to phone or e-mail if you would like to promote your member company or organization or if you have milestones or events planned so we can help spread the word.
And finally, if you are a former member of the chamber, I would love to sit down with you and see what I can do to bring you home. I will listen and do all I can to understand your concerns. If you have never considered bringing your business or organization to the chamber, please consider joining. The more the merrier as they say. Give me an opportunity to be your advocate and your biggest fan.
