CARIBOU — After several months without an acting director, the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce has hired a replacement for Jenny Coon, who resigned from the position in August.

William J. Tasker’s first day as director was Nov. 26.

Originally from New Jersey, Tasker has lived in Aroostook County since the early 1990s. Deciding he was tired of factory work, Tasker went back to school at the University of Maine in Presque Isle, and in 1993 began working in the home of Glynn Willett, co-founder of tax software company ATX. Tasker was instrumental in the growth of ATX and was the head of its customer service department for 15 years.

After ATX was bought out, Tasker was given the opportunity to move to Georgia. Because of his love of the area, Tasker chose to remain in Caribou with his children.

After his success at ATX, Tasker began the local publishing company Monkey Publishing. He created and published the Pioneer Homes book series, documenting information on historic homes in Aroostook communities such as Caribou, Washburn, Fort Fairfield, Ashland, Woodland and Houlton.

Increasing his already vast knowledge of Caribou, Tasker also laid out and printed the popular Sesquicentennial book that was sold throughout the community during the city’s 150th birthday celebration.

Tasker advises his mission for CACC is to strengthen the organization’s relationship with area businesses and emphasize to the public and the business community the value of having a full-fledged chamber.  He would like to increase the Chamber’s social network presence and plans to feature at least four businesses a week on the Chamber’s website.

Tasker and his wife, Jayne, reside in Caribou. See below for an introductory Chamber column from Tasker.
