NEW SWEDEN — Nov. 15 was cup crazy all over the world as thousands of participants took part in what Guinness World Records termed the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.”

During the course of the Guinness World Records Day, sport stackers from all reaches of the world up-stacked and down-stacked various pyramids in prescribed patterns at lightning speed for at least 30 minutes, all combined with a variety of fitness activities.

Locally, the New Sweden School participated in the event with students from all grade levels running stacking drills. The students were divided into four groups that competed against each other to up-stack and down-stack pyramids fashioned out of stacking cups. Each student also got one chance to set an individual record using mini stacking cups.

The event was coordinated by New Sweden’s physical education teacher, Thomas Beckum. It began at 12:30 p.m. and continued until 1:15 p.m. The students were not only able to get some physical activity in by participating in the event, but also got a lesson in sportsmanship with their cheers for each other echoing loudly throughout the gymnasium.
