American Legion sponsors Coats for Kids and Families

The American Legion Auxiliary Henry B. Pratt, Jr., Unit number 15 will again be sponsoring their annual free coat drive.     The Legion Post is located on Sweden St, Caribou. This event will take place on Friday, Nov. 2. The Post will reopen its’ doors on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. and will close at 3 p.m.

According to Jessica Feeley, who is the event coordinator, the coats were donated from several sources.

“We receive a donation every year from the American Legion Auxiliary in Mars Hill, as well as from private citizens. This year we have also received a large number of coats from the Cubby here in Caribou,” she said. “The Unit was also able to purchase a large number of children’s hats at the end of last winter.”

One of the tenets of the American Legion family of organizations is a dedication to “mutual helpfulness.” People should not have to forego warm coats in the winter because of a tight budget. Giving away coats to our neighbors who need them is just one of the many ways that the ladies of the Auxiliary choose to fulfill that part of our mission.

There are a large variety of items available. Sizes range from infants through to extra-large sizes. There are coats, jackets, snow pants and hats. At this point, we have had only one pair of boots.  If anyone would like to donate any clean, used items, they can be dropped off on Friday morning, Nov. 2 at 8 a.m.
