CMS girls win league soccer crown

The Caribou Middle School girls soccer team completed the 2012 season undefeated in the Aroostook League with a 5-0-1 record, with its only tie coming at Houlton the final week of the season.

The Vikings completed its schedule with an overall record of 12-0-1. This is Caribou’s third consecutive County title.

CMS’s defense, led by Hope Shea, Danielle Hanson, Rachel Soucy, Zoé Gerakaris, Willow Whitten and goalies Kerrigan Manter, Jaelynn Doody and Emma Green, put up seven shutouts out of the 13 games, including a string of five in a row. The team also had five games of just one goal given up.

The only time the Vikes gave up more then one goal was in the team’s first game of the year. The defense also had two games in which it didn’t allow a single shot and eight halves where it gave up three shots or less.

Offensively, everyone on the team attempted at least one shot, with 13 girls getting assists and 10 different players scoring at least one goal. CMS outscored its opponents by a 61-7 margin over the course of the season and took 226 shot, which averages out to 17 per game.

Leading the team in scoring was Maddie Doucette with 22 goals, Kassie Krul with 19 and Ashley Matlock with 15.

Also scoring multiple goals Camryn Langille and Gabrielle Marquis. Scoring one goal each were Megan Dube, Searra Herbert, Alexis Rodriguez, Hope Shea and Alyssa Saucier.

The remaining team members are Olivia Picard, Sierra Ouellette, Erin Jandreau, Kyra Thibeault, Kara Madore, Heather LaMothe and Riley McNeal. The team’s managers are Jillian Jandreau, Krista Michaud and Adessa Judd and the coaches are Ryan Deprey and CP Harris.
