A clear view from 36,000 feet

To the editor:

Our nephew Paul Paradis and his fiancée Rachel Burrows’ wedding in Sonoma, California on Labor Day weekend had us flying cross-country to San Francisco. I chose to keep my video on the map of the U.S., where I could see America at a 36,000 feet view with clear skies the whole way. It was a busy travel weekend with tourists flying home, students returning to school, and others going to destination weddings.

It was a needed respite from on-ground noise. The panorama at that height shows order, calm, and neatness. With the so-called idiot box spewing all that is wrong with our country, that vantage reminds us that it’s not so bad.

This feeling continued during our entire visit in wine country. The rural area was nice to observe. Sonoma has a small town feel; we felt very safe as we joined people of every possible nationality mingling and chatting away in their native tongue just as we do.

This diversity built our country into a show place. We’re all from some place else. We all bloomed where we were planted. Why is that reality so hard to understand in some quarters? Why do some of us want to be the boss of everybody? Hopefully, we found work that brings find joy. Chatting with former and present Valleyites, we hear that the lessons taught to us by the adults and peers in our life have served us in good stead.
