Challenge: ‘Don’t be a litterbug’

To the editor:

When I was young, “Don’t Be A Litterbug” was a big campaign to “Keep America Beautiful”! I believe our community needs to rise above and be mindful of “Keeping Caribou Beautiful.”

I live in Caribou’s countryside and often walk my dog along the roadside and I am irritated by all the trash that gets thrown out by careless drivers. Today, I walked my dog, collecting a tall kitchen garbage bag full then weighed the garbage. In two tenths of a mile, the garbage was seven pounds!

I realize we are a society of fast food meals, bottles and cans of liquids of many types, snack items, cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products, but must we throw our trash onto other’s property and cause our beautiful lands to be “trashed?” I challenge you to please keep your trash in your vehicle and dispose of your trash when you get home!

Thanks and lets “Keep Caribou and America Beautiful.”
