The Caribou Middle School girls soccer team began their season with six wins in a row, outscoring their competition by a margin of 29-5.

The season started with a game at Fort Fairfield, resulting in a 5-2 victory. Eighth-grader Maddie Doucette and seventh-grader Ashley Matlock accounted for all the scoring for Caribou in the game, with Matlock picking up the hat trick and Doucette chipping in with two goals. Hope Shea, the team’s sweeper, picked up two assists.

The second game was at home against Fort Kent and the hosts came out strong by scoring four first-half goals to overpower the Warriors, 7-1. Sixth-grader Kassie Krul scored four goals and Matlock added three of her own. Krul, Doucette, Megan Dube and Camryn Langille all picked up assists in the contest.

A contest in Fort Kent followed, and the outcome was similar as Caribou rolled, 5-0. Doucette’s three goals led the way for Caribou. Shea scored the first goal of her middle school career and Matlock had the other. Goalie Kerrigan Manter picked up the shutout win, the first of the season. Krul, Langille and Searra Herbert all recorded assists.

Game four saw the Fort Tigers in Caribou, and CMS put together another great showing by scoring four first-half goals en route to the 4-1 triumph. Four different players scored goals, led by Langille scoring the first of her career, along with one apiece by Krul, Doucette and Matlock. Alyssa Saucier and Krul tallied assists.

Caribou’s first league game came in its fifth game of the season against the Presque Isle Blue team. In dominating fashion, CMS outshot its opponent by a 35-2 margin in picking up the 4-0 win. Jaelynn Doody and Emma Green combined for the shutout in goal after losing starting goalie Kerrigan Manter to an injury during warm-ups.

Doucette scored two first-half goals and Krul scored two goals in the second half to give CMS the win. Matlock showed off her passing skills, assisting on both Doucette goals, and marking back Danielle Hanson added an assist as well. Key defensive efforts from Rachel Soucy and Zoe Gerakaris were huge for the Vikings.

The latest game pitted previously-undefeated Madawaska against Caribou. Madawaska controlled play for most of the first half, outshooting the Vikes, 10-3, but both teams headed into halftime tied at zero. In the second half, Caribou showed that they can control play as well, holding a 9-1 shot advantage. CMS went on to a 4-1 win. Herbert scored her first career goal, with Doucette notched two and Krul one. Gabby Marquis and Matlock both had assists.
