CARIBOU — Lisa Wilcox has turned a life-long love of reading and a flair for putting words to paper into a position as community reporter for her hometown newspaper.
Wilcox, a 1987 Caribou High School graduate, has spent most of her professional career in the customer service industry, first at Burrelle’s Press Clipping Service in Presque Isle, later at MBNA America in Belfast and Energy Atlantic in Presque Isle, and most recently with United Insurance’s Hayden/Perry Agency. In 2007 she earned an associate’s degree in business from Husson College.
During her time at United Insurance, Wilcox worked on public relations projects that included creating and editing news releases, writing radio and television spots and assisting with marketing campaigns. It was during her assignments to contribute to company newsletters that she developed a reputation for writing clearly and concisely.
For the past six weeks, Wilcox has reported on a part-time basis for the Aroostook Republican, covering diverse subjects including Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 and the Caribou Cares about Kids festivities.
“I have wanted to pursue a career in journalism and have great interest in our community and involvement in its many newsworthy events,” said Wilcox.
Residents may also know Wilcox from her part-time job at Paradis Shop n’ Save in Caribou. However, with her new reporter responsibilities, she has had to give up her grocery store position.
Outside of her newspaper duties, Wilcox will continue as a volunteer and current president of the Literacy Volunteers of Aroostook organization.
She will share editorial responsibilities at the Republican with reporters Natalie Bazinet and Kevin Sjoberg.
