County Federal Credit Union serving central, southern Aroostook communities

The County Federal Credit Union’s expansion into southern Aroostook County means great things for all the financial institution’s members, currently totaling over 16,000, and things will only get better as the new Houlton location is built.

“As we grow, we’re able to provide more services through additional capital and the earnings that we have — we turn that right back to the services we provide to our members,” explained Kenneth Hensler, CEO of the CFCU.

Prior to the CFCU’s merging with the Houlton Federal Credit Union (HFCU) in 2011, its members only extended as far south as Westfield.

At the time, the HFCU existed in southern Aroostook as a small, very profitable credit union that provided limited services for its members.

Hensler and other officials with CFCU believed that they could help expand on the services offered to southern Aroostook credit union members and help even more people discover the benefits of joining a credit union.

“Being able to give the credit union philosophy to all the people who live in central and southern Aroostook County is a great thing for us — especially the CFCU’s philosophy, which has been very well received throughout the years.

First founded as the Loring Federal Credit Union in 1956, the CFCU’s mission is to provide a variety of quality financial services that are competitively priced and offer a fair return to their members.

A new facet of the financial institution is currently in the making, and CFCU members will soon be able enjoy a brand new, state of the art new building in Houlton, currently being constructed on two acres of land conveniently located on Rout one, next to the Irving Station.

Officials with the credit union understand the importance of convenience for their members, and that’s that’s why their friendly, helpful staff will be available for transactions through two brand new drive-through teller lanes and, for even quicker transactions, a drive-up ATM is also being constructed for banking on the go.

“The other feature we were able to do for the community, as far as the facility is concerned, is we’re building it large enough so that we can expand personnel and we’re creating a community room on the back of the building,” Hensler said.
