LIMESTONE – Ryan O’Neal has been hired as coach of the Limestone varsity girls basketball team. He has coached the junior varsity team the past two seasons and prior to that had coached at the middle level for four years.
He replaces Bob Hancock, who stepped down last spring after leading the 2011-12 team to a 10-9 record. The Eagles lost to Hodgdon in an Eastern Maine Class D preliminary playoff game. It was Hancock’s second stint as the team’s coach.
O’Neal has also served as the varsity softball coach for four years. His teams have reached the semifinal round of the playoffs all four years and made it to the title game in 2009.
“Ryan will provide the girls program with youthful enthusiasm,” said LCS athletic director Larry Worcester. “His positive encouragement and reinforcement coaching style will be great for this group of girls.
“He is a great hire and we are very excited to have him.”
