Softball tourney

The Limestone Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual softball tournament Sunday, July 1 at the Albert E. Michaud Park.

Amateur Softball Association rules will be in effect for this event, which will get under way at 9 a.m.

The fee is $20 for a team of 12 players. The winning team will earn bragging rights as well as a $50 cash prize. Registrations are due by Friday, June 29 and brackets will be released Saturday.

Rotary golf tourney

The Limestone Rotary Club’s annual golf tournament will be held Saturday, June 30 at Limestone Country Club.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tourney is for four-person teams. The entry fee is $100 per team.

A $5,000 hole-in-one is up for grabs. A putting contest is scheduled and door prizes will also be given away. Call LCC at 328-7277 for more information.

“Prime 7” Fitness Program for Kids

The Cary Medical Center Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Team will be providing a non-sport specific fitness program for kids ages 12-19 in Caribou, Limestone, Easton and Fort Fairfield.

“Prime 7,” focusing on strength, speed, cardiovascular, flexibility, endurance, power and stamina conditioning, will be held beginning July 9 from 8-9:30 a.m., with five sessions taking place over a two-week period. The cost is $20 per student. All participants receive a free T-shirt.

All-star game

A pair of local players were selected to the Maine High School Softball Coaches Association East/West Senior All Star Game, which was played Thursday at Cony High School in Augusta.

Making the C-D team were Amanda Allen and Stephanie Leighton, both of Limestone-MSSM. The West beat the East, 6-5, in nine innings.

For a player to be selected to the team the players coach must be a member of the coaches association.

39th annual Sportsmen Inc.

Fishing derby results

Sportsmen Inc. held its 39th annual fishing derby at Cross Lake Landing June 23 and 24.

The largest salmon, caught by Tim Sites of Caribou, measured 3 lbs., 6 oz. His prize was $200. In second place in the salmon category was Ron Ouellette of Stockholm, who won $100 for his 2 lbs. 12-1/2 oz. catch.

Matthew Holabird of Caribou took first prize of $200 with his 2 lbs., 10 oz. trout. In second was Cindy Barnes of Augusta, whose 1 lb., 13 oz. trout netted her $100.

The drawing for a 12-foot Old Town kayak was won by Keith Botting of Caribou.

Golf scramble at AVCC to benefit hoop hall of fame

The second annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame golf scramble will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield.

This four-person Oldsmobile scramble format will have an 11 a.m. shotgun start, with registration taking place from 10-10:45 a.m. The field is limited to the first 40 paid teams and the entry fee is $50 per person, which includes a steak or chicken barbecue.
