Members of the Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 board of education met for a regular meeting on June 6 at the superintendent’s office.
Superintendent Frank McElwain asked for board to vote on three policies: community use of school facilities; facilities use agreement and community use of auditoriums; and rules and fee schedules.
According to the policies “School facilities are defined as building and grounds, parking lots, playing fields and fixed equipment. It is the Eastern Aroostook RSU 39’s desire that the local taxpayers who provide the school should be able to obtain maximum use of the facilities, to the extent consistent with the primary educational function of the school. It is intended that community uses for educational, recreational, social, civic, philanthropic and like purposes be approved by the administration, in accordance with this policy, the implementing regulations and a fee schedule approved by the board.”
In a weighted vote of 703 (Willey, Gordon, McNeal, Rohme and Sjostedt) to 106 (Albert), the policies were passed. For more information on the rules, regulations and fees, individuals or groups may contact the superintendent’s office.
In other business a motion made by John Sjostedt and seconded by Clifford Rhome to extend the student schedule for pre-K students from four to five days each week passed by a unanimous vote.
The RSU board members were asked to consider authorizing the transfer of funds to other cost centers within the RSU 39 operating budget. The motion, seconded by Scott Willey, was unanimously approved.
In his superintendent’s report, McElwain said the following resignations had been accepted; Judy Theriault, custodian, Caribou Learning Center/superintendent’s office; and Dwane Theriault, custodian at Caribou High School.
