Members of the Community Alcohol and Drug Education Team (CADET) and the recently formed Caribou Youth Commission held a town meeting Monday to update community members on what CADET has been involved with over the past six years (since the initial CADET town meeting was held) and to introduce members of the Youth Commission, whose purpose is to engage and empower young people by providing them with a forum that gives them a voice and to positively engage them as members of the community. At the end of the meeting held at the Caribou Performing Arts Center, the group assembled a puzzle, each piece representing an area within the community that is crucial to providing a safe and supportive environment for the development and education of Caribou’s youth. From left are Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan, Joshua Kovach, chairman of the Caribou Youth Commission and a senior at CHS; and Brian Levesque, representing community groups/organizations that work to provide a safe haven for youth. A complete article on the CADET/Caribou Youth Commission town meeting will be in next week’s edition.
