Caribou’s former fire chief who resigned in January of this year was one of approximately 50 indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury on Friday.
Court documents state that Roy E. Woods, 67, of Caribou has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual contact, three counts of assault and one count of unlawful sexual touching; he is scheduled to go before the Aroostook County Superior Court in July.
Unlawful sexual contact is a class “C” crime with a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $100,000 fine, according to Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins. Assault and unlawful sexual touching are both class “D” crimes, with a maximum sentence of 364 days in Aroostook County Jail and a $2,000 fine.
The charges stem from four alleged instances that took place in Caribou, three instance involving a first victim and one involving a second.
The indictment states that Woods allegedly had unlawful sexual contact with the first victim twice around Aug. 1 of 2009 and again around Jan. 1 of 2010; he is also charged with one count of assault with the same victim for each approximate date.
The indictment also states that Woods allegedly subjected a second victim to unlawful sexual touching on or about Dec. 23, 2011; he’s also been charged with assault for the alleged encounter with the second victim.
Woods has not been arrested. As Collins explained, the court will issue a summons telling Woods when to appear, and that is when the court will set bail.
