Shawn Pelletier, owner of C.S. Management, Inc. was the recipient of the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award, presented by employee Shelley O’Rourke..

Shawn Pelletier, owner of C.S. Management, Inc. was presented with the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award, during the annual dinner and recognition affair held on May 4, at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Shelley O’Rourke speaking on behalf of C.S. Management, Inc. employees, presented the award.

Pelletier has been involved in the housing management industry for the past 22 years. In 1989, he started working for C.S. Management, Inc., where he learned all aspects of affordable housing under the guidance of Corey Solman. In 2007, he partnered with Christine Solman and developed Solar Storage North, LLC, a 66-unit self-storage facility located at 58 Solman Street.

In January, 2010, Pelletier purchased C.S. Management, Inc. from Solman’s widow Nancy.

According to O’Rourke and a number of other employees who nominated him for this award, “Shawn is a true believer in keeping his customers happy and he instills that in his employees today. He also believes in growing his business, always looking for new opportunities.”

In 2011 Pelletier established another new business — Pelletier Property Services, LLC, providing quality property maintenance services for Caribou and surrounding areas. PPS provides snow removal and lawn care services to commercial businesses and private home owners, with planned expansions for 2012.

Most recently Pelletier purchased the Optix (former Maine Public Service) building on Bennett Drive and will be relocating his offices to that location after final renovations have been completed. Visible changes in the building have already taken place and Studio 137, a hair, nail and tanning salon opened at the site in March.

In accepting the award, Pelletier stated that he was surprised and honored to see so many individuals whom he had met, worked with and come to know over the past 22 years who were in attendance at the May 4 event.

The Caribou businessman described how when he graduated from college with a degree relating to computer technology he found it difficult to find employment but did not want to leave the area. It was during that time that he was introduced to the late Corey Solman who, over time became Pelletier’s mentor and friend.

“In 1984 Corey had a vision,” stated Pelletier, “a vision to use his father’s farmland to build affordable housing for the people of this community — and he did and that’s what C.S. Management continues to provide — affordable housing, while creating jobs to employ local people.”

“Receiving this award is an honor,” said Pelletier, “even more so because of the fact that it was my employees, who are like family, that were responsible for C.S. being nominated.”
