News from the Daughters of Isabella Circle

The Daughters of Isabella Circle 638 held their May pot luck supper meeting at the parish center on May 1 at 5:30 p.m. After a delicious supper headed by Mary Ellen Fields with Peggy Winston, Johanna Beaulieu, Madeline Guerrette, Debbie Chabre, Lue Wark and Jeane Bushnell, Regent Gail Hjort called the business meeting to order.

This was an open meeting with guests Toni Phillips and Lorraine Morin in attendance.

Birthday people for the month of May revealed Sharon Perreault as recipient of the gift, with “Happy Birthday” being sung.

The 50/50 raffle in the amount of $16.50 was won by Arline St. Peter.

Roll call of officers showed 14 present and four absent.

Father Aaron, the group’s chaplain, shared with the ladies that this is the Easter season, the most sacred season of the year and that “we are a resurrected people. Our hope is in Jesus.”

The group received a thank-you note from the Mercy Sunday committee, thanking the Daughters for providing sweets for the Mercy Sunday celebration. They also received a request from Smile Train asking for a donation for children needing cleft surgery. Holy Rosary Circle moved to donate $250 to the organization. Member Phyllis Brown matched the donation.

The daughters will send cards to Doris Albert, Lillian Keaton and Claire Randolph.

Cards were sent to Vi Cummings Sirois, Brenda Corriveau, Beverly McNeal, Judy DuBois and Father Ridgeway (former state chaplain for the Daughters of Isabella).

The group’s Regent, Hjort read a letter from the International Regent, Mrs. Christiane Chagnon of Magog, Quebec regarding the upcoming Biennial International Convention to be held in Dearborn, Michigan from August 4 through August 8. Two of Daughters of Isabella from circle 638 will be attending the event, which is themed “Radiate Your Faith In Friendship,” this year. Delegates from international, state and local circles will come together during the convention to discuss business and elect their International Officers for the next two years.

Also during the ladies’ meeting, member Rena Lagasse asked the circle to provide refreshments after the Mass at the Celebration of Welcoming to be held on Sunday, June 3.

Regent Hjort thanked everyone who participated in the Mass at St. Denis on april 22, celebrated by their Chaplin, Father Aaron.

The ladies were informed that there is a basket in the back of the church for the National Baby Shower and members were asked to donate individual items, which will be picked up prior to Mother’s Day and brought to the Pregnancy Care Center in Presque Isle.

The next meeting of the daughters of Isabella Circle 638 will be an ice cream social, and then the group will break until September. The refreshment committee for June 5 includes Hjort, Tammy Morin, Vi Cummings Sirois, Adeline Beaulieu and Norma Shaw.

The group reminded members that discount cards are still being sold, and member Dolores D. Martin can be contacted for additional information. The organization is open to any Catholic woman over the age of 16 and the group strives to carry out their motto of Friendship, Unity and Charity.”
