CHS baseball opens with two wins over Ellsworth

The Caribou Vikings are off to a 2-0 start this baseball season. The schedule, weather permitting, gets busier this week.

 

Recapping the games played through Monday night:

Caribou 5, Ellsworth 1 — At Ellsworth Saturday, Matt Curry pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks to help the Vikings complete a doubleheader sweep.

Ben Curtis and Shawn Saddler provided RBI singles for Caribou, which also got a double from Chad Caverhill.

The Vikings scored three unearned runs in the third and added two runs in the seventh.

Caribou 6, Ellsworth 0 — In the second game of the twin bill, Cody Herbert fired a three-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking four, to lead the Vikings to a victory and the sweep.

Matt Millard hit two singles for Caribou, which received a two-run, pinch-hit single by Dylan Berkoski during its three-run seventh. Mike Selander added an RBI single.
