Impressive start for the Caribou High School track and field team

BREWER — The 2012 high school track and field season is under way and the Caribou Vikings had an impressive start to the schedule.

Caribou’s Morgan Swan got her senior track and field season off to a good start by winning the javelin, discus and shot put at a meet in Brewer over the weekend.

 

In Brewer on Saturday the Caribou girls’ team took the opening meet of the season with 180 points. Placing second was the host Witches with 148 points. Old Town, Ellsworth, Foxcroft, Calais, Bangor Christian and Sumner followed.

The boys’ team finished second with 103 points. Brewer won the meet with 144 points. Ellsworth was third followed by Old Town, Bangor Christian, Foxcroft, Calais and Sumner.

Caribou senior Morgan Swan was a multiple event winner, taking first in all the throwing events.    

Junior Brendan Wood also won three events. He was tops in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and in the triple jump.

Caribou girls scoring top-10 finishes in various events include:

100-meter dash — 2, Olivia Sleeper, 14 seconds and 6, Mackenzie Deveau, 14.82.

200-meter dash — 3, O. Sleeper, 29.20 and 6, Deveau, 31.10.

400-meter dash — 3, O. Sleeper, 1:04.31 and 8, Hannah Hebert, 1:13.02.

800-meter run — 4, Sarah Doak, 2:38.40; 5, Katie Plourde, 2:40.98; 7, Alissa Randolph, 2:51.38; and 8, Kristen Macek, 2:59.74.

1,600-meter run — 2, Doak, 5:44.55 and 5, Macek, 6:25.43.

3,200-meter run — 1, Mackenzie Belyea, 12:47.76; 3, Nerissa Larrabee, 13:07.12; 4, Robyn Larrabee, 13:30.85; and 5, Meredith Sleeper, 13:46.83.

100-meter hurdles — 2, Sarae Sager, 17.76; 6, Paige Small, 21.53; 7, Kelly Kashian, 21.60; and 9, Chaya Karunasi, 24.53.

The next meet for Caribou will be this weekend at the annual MDI Relays, which begin at 11 a.m. in Bar Harbor.
