The book I’m reading is called “The Pity Party” by Allison Pollet. The characters in the book are Cass, Rod, Penelope, Tille, Bea, Aunt Doris, Annabella, Lillian, Matt, Cherry Warner, Gunky Throat, and Nathaniel.

The setting in the book is in New York, and the time period takes place in 1982.

The plot of the book is about a girl named Cass Levin who is in the eighth grade. She and her friends all have different classes this year. In Cass’s English class there is a new kid named Rod Punkin. Cass thought he was weird at first, then Cass, Rod and three other kids got put into the same group. Cass and Rod started to be friends. Rod got kicked out of school, and Cass got upset. Cass met Rod’s little brother Matt and he told Cass about where Rod went. Rod got put into a Boarding School.

The class was going on a field trip. The Boarding School was near the place that the class was going to, and Cass was going to try to escape the trip to see Rod. Cass told Matt to tell Rod to meet her at a house near a pond.

The conflict is that Cass and her class went on the field trip, and they slept somewhere in a cabin and when they were about to leave for a hike, Cass left and went to meet Rod. They met, and they were together for a while. Rod had to leave to go back to his Boarding School. He left and Cass didn’t know what to do, suddenly police cars and fire trucks are coming down the road.

What people in the story learn is to not run away to see a friend because people will worry. They were not sure if she was ok or not. They were not able to find her, and they had to send out police cars and other stuff to find her and make sure she was safe.

I would recommend this book because it’s a good book. I’ve read three books this year. They were fiction, mystery fiction, and fiction.
