CARIBOU — The seventh annual Aroostook Youth Ski Festival took place at the Caribou High School trails on Saturday, March 3. Despite lots of new fallen snow, close to 50 participants and their families from all over The County came out to join the fun and games. Almost as many volunteers, including many local high school skiers, were on hand to lead all of the activities.
Participants were divided into age groups and rotated through a number of stations, each featuring a different ski activity. Skiers hit jumps in the terrain park, measured their speed at the radar gun hill, trekked through the woods on the Adventure Trail, and aimed for accuracy at beanbag biathlon. During all of this kids were able to follow the antics of the Viking and Nordie mascots as they made their way around on skis. Following a snack and raffle prize break, skiers again hit the trails for big group activities, including the much-anticipated huge game of Sharks and Minnows.
The Northern Skiers Club of Caribou hosted the Aroostook Youth Ski Festival with generous support from Cary Medical Center. A Healthy Hometowns ski trailer was on hand to outfit participants with skis, boots, and poles.
