Snowstorms and freezing cold temperatures didn’t stop these young skiers from posing for a group picture while participating in ”Ski-Daddle,” an after-school ski program sponsored by the Caribou Parks and Recreation Dept. Regardless of their ski abilities, not long after the beginning of the program all skiers hit the ground gliding as they learned the fundamentals of cross-country skiing including the classical and skate strides, and the herringbone and sidestep techniques. During last month’s school vacation these skiers, members of the Caribou Parks and Recreational Dept.’s after-school ski program tested the Caribou Country Club Ski Trails. Finding the snow very sticky that day, the youth participants decided to contribute a snowman to the already scenic backdrop provided to cross-country skiers who frequent the trails. On Feb. 24, Aroostook State Park hosted the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association’s (NMCRA) Take It Outside Day. For those who had never visited Aroostook State Park, this provided an unparalleled opportunity to discover beautiful ski and snowshoe trails and a spectacular sliding hill.
