February Frolic attracts 56 skiers

CARIBOU — Despite 20 inches of new snow and 30 mile an hour winds, 56 skiers were out Sunday, Feb. 26 to participate in the first February Frolic sponsored by Cary Medical Center, Northern Skiers and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department.

There were two race venues, with the annual New Years skate ski race held at the Caribou High School Ski Center and then the 37th annual Henry Anderson Ski Dag held at the Caribou Ski Trails located at the Caribou Country Club.

As part of the Aroostook Cup Series, the races offered both racing and touring opportunities that catered to a wide array of skiing levels. The races also offered 12 age categories covering youngsters 12 and under as well as octogenarians.

Ribbons were awarded to the first three male and female finishers in all age divisions in each race. Special awards were also presented for the best combined times from each event for all age divisions, both male and female.

Capturing the overall combined male awards were: 13-15, Kamram Houssain, 10th Mtn Ski Club, Ft. Kent; 16-19 Erik Rupert, 10th Mtn Ski Club; 20-29, Seth Hubbard, 10th Mtn Ski Club; 30-39, George Ferland, Snowy Mtn Ski Club, Stockholm; 40-49, Jeff Dubuis, 10th Mtn Ski Club; 50-59, Paul Cyr, 10th Mtn Ski Club; and 60-69, Bob Sprague, Northern Skiers Club, Caribou.

Capturing the overall combined female awards were: 13-15, Gentle Prescott, 10th Mtn Ski Club; 16-19, Danni Anderson, Nordic Heritage Center, Presque Isle; 20-29, Lauren Jacobs, Nordic Heritage Center; 30-39, Susan Plissey, Snowy Mtn Ski Club; 40-49, Sherry Dubis, 10th Mtn Ski Club; and 50-59, Patricia Hebert, 10th Mtn Ski Club.
